I remember an occasion when a boy forgot his swimming trunks and was told to swim in his PE shorts and use his T-shirt as a makeshift towel. The problem was that the PE shorts were made of white nylon, which were quite transparent even when dry, and he didn’t want the embarrassment of swimming in his pants. So he made the decision to swim with his pants on beneath his shorts. This was an enjoyable sight to see.
